Davidson College Choirs
Davidson College Chorale is the premier choral ensemble at Davidson. A highly select, auditioned choir comprised of students from various academic disciplines, they perform the standard choral repertoire as well as newly composed and commissioned choral literature. The Chorale rehearses four hours each week. The Chorale also tours annually and represents Davidson College on the campus, regionally, and nationally.
In recent years the Chorale has toured nationally to Key West, Miami, Orlando, Savannah, Charleston, Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, and New Orleans. Internationally the Chorale has toured to Prague, Salzberg, Vienna, and Ireland. The Chorale hopes to tour internationally again soon.
A select student-led ensemble between eight and 16 members drawn from Davidson College Chorale in the Music Department. Collegium specializes in music of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. In collaboration with the Director of Choral Activities, students who participate in Collegium Musicum are provided opportunities in service through semester concerts (including a Christmas concert and Spring madrigal dinner) and leadership through rehearsal direction, sectional instruction, ensemble administration, event planning, rehearsal accompanying, rehearsal conducting, and choral composition.
After Hours Vocal Jazz
A select student-led ensemble between eight and 12 members drawn from Davidson College Chorale in the Music Department. After Hours specializes in the vocal jazz repertoire. In collaboration with the Director of Choral Activities, students who participate in After Hours are provided opportunities in service through semester concerts and leadership through rehearsal direction, sectional instruction, ensemble administration, event planning, rehearsal accompanying, rehearsal conducting, and choral composition.
An auditioned mixed vocal ensemble for experienced or novice choristers interested in learning more about the art of choral singing. Davidson Singers meet each Thursday from 6:30-8:30 PM. They also rehearse occasionally on Wednesdays with the Davidson College Chorale at 5:00 PM. Davidson Singers join with the Davidson College Chorale in their fall and spring concerts, are the leading choir for the Campus Christmas Party, and join with all the choirs each year in the Holiday Gala, Messiah Sing-Along, and end-of-year "major works concert" with the Davidson College Choirs and Pro Arte Orchestra.
Choral Arts Society Of Davidson
This large mixed chorus provides the opportunity for faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the surrounding community to sing a cappella choral literature and the finest choral/orchestral repertoire with instrumentalists from the Charlotte Symphony and professional soloist from Davidson and surrounding areas. The Choral Arts Society meets on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm.
Recent performances by Choral Arts Society of Davidson have included Duruflé Requiem, Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Bach Magnificat and Mass in B Minor, Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem and Serenade to Music, Haydn Cre-ation, Constant Lambert Rio Grande, Brahm's Requiem, Stravinsky Symphony of Psalms, Bernstein Chichester Psalms, Rachmaninoff All-Night Vigil, Karl Jenkins Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, Dan Forrest Requiem for the Living, and Ralph Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony. Upcoming performances for the 2017-2018 season include Haydn's Missa Angustiis (Lord Nelson Mass), and Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo.
